My favourite Devon sites on the web

Here is a collection of some of my favourite sites from Devon on the internet.

First up has got to be 'The Plough Arts Centre'. This site gives easy access to all the events happening at this surprisingly busy arts centre in Torrington, Devon. The home page let's you know what's happening today and for the rest of the week, whilst other pages list events and films for the months ahead. There are workshops and exhibitions listed too. Facebook and Google+ users can register their support as well.

Staying with an entertainment theme, my next choice is the website for my favourite Ceilidh band, the 'SheerHopody Barn Dance Band'. It's packed full with info about the band, but seek out the sound and video samples (listen on your hi-fi) and the online shop (ShopHopody!) where you can buy a variety of music related products such as CDs, mp3 downloads and even musical instruments. A 'must buy' for any self-respecting bass guitarist are the 'Warwick' bass guitar strings on offer at very good prices. Of course, it's also worth seeking out the enquiry form should you actually want to book a ceilidh band in Devon or the south-west. Take a look at the testimonials and you'll see the band comes highly recommended.

For many years I would have recommended greenol.co.uk for organic and fairtrade wholefoods until a little while ago it stopped trading. The site remained though, and now once again, you can buy a wide variety of organic products through this site. The new shop is in association with amazon so you're actually buying from them or one of their approved partners rather than from greenol.co.uk but many of the products are the same. The range is not as wide and the bulk packs are mostly missing, but still very useful. There's also a list of 'real' organic retailers if you want to buy locally. Worth a look.

If you don't live in Devon and would like to come here on holiday then I can recommend a nice guest-house to stay in Chulmleigh. The Old Bakehouse has medieval origins and the hospitality is nicely 'old-fashioned' too!

A Devon-based charity I like is 'Joliba Trust'. It operates a number of projects aiming to restore livelihoods in Mali. It occassionally has a real shop in Chagford. Please give it your support, if only a 'like' on Facebook. Thanks.

Talking of Chagford, if you're ever there, visit The Globe. Good food, good beer, nice people.

...and if you happen to be involved with a UK charity, you may find NetAcclaim worth a look for free charity web-hosting.

That's it for now. Thanks for listening.
